"Brew Through It" Coffee Company

Design/Problem statement:

How can our visual design, created with colour and storytelling be used to represent the emotional journey and progression between the seven stages of grief in a way that helps people understand, process and connect with the progress of grief.

With our final project, we hope to show the physical and emotional experience with the most human and unavoidable experience we can have- grief and death. We hope to accomplish this with strong colours associated with each stage and feelings, symbols and emotional imagery to highlight each stage: Shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance.

With the final design, we want to offer a creative and supportive project that comforts and educates on the stages of grief as mental health and personal struggles can be under looked and not always talked about. We want to visually represent what someone dealing with loss and going through the non-linear stages of grief will connect and relate to.

What's The Concept?:

For this idea, we want to use the idea of coffee (which is universal and comforting- just like the seven stages of grief) into different blends where the flavour, colour, ingredients and packaging tell a story based on a stage of grief. Brewing coffee takes time, just like grieving. To brew coffee, it takes heat and time to prepare to turn the original bitterness into something smooth and rich, which mirrors the stages of grief and the psychology behind it.

Why This Concept?:

One of our main focuses with this assignment is that grief is difficult and complicated to understand and talk about and people turn to small forms of comfort rather than talk about their feelings- like coffee- and it becomes a daily representation of routine and self reflection. By turning the stages into a coffee flavour we can show the stages of grief in a relatable visual concept that connects the psychology, imagery, colours, textures and words of interest to the packaging and flavours.

With this concept, were also able to turn the heavy and scary feelings that come with grief and loss into something more lighthearted and that healing process can come from everyday items that we might not think about

Art Direction:

Each product will be design cohesively with a consistent brand, but catered to the stage that the flavour is representing. Inviting, illustrated and fun design that is appealing but can also represent each stage of grief correctly.
